Barafundle Bay in Pictures from John Hodge

Anyone who knows me knows my love of the sea, and when I saw that John Hodge (he of the beautiful hand-carved love spoons. Check out the article about him here on Pembrokshire.Online) had images of some of the beautiful beaches in our county, I asked if he would be willing to share them. Here are some of his images of Barafundle Bay.

Unfortunately for me, this beautiful east-facing sandy beach is only reachable along a half-mile walk from the carpark. Once belonging to the Cawdor family of Stackpole Court, it is now in the capable hands of the the National Trust and is part of the Stackpole Estate.

Backed by dunes and pine trees, it offers golden sands and crystal clear water for the more able-bodied of visitors, but is not the most accessible of beaches for the less mobile. Pushchairs and wheelchairs, I am advised, are not much use here.

It’s fortunate that we have folks like John and his wife, Judith (find her too in the magazine) who like to walk and are happy to share.
