Free Counselling for Young People

POINT is always looking for the best way to support young people in North Pembrokeshire. One of its latest projects, Nurturing the Future, is a counselling service for young people, provided by a qualified counsellor and includes many elements of mental health, emotional and wellbeing support.

The service is free of charge to anyone aged 10-25.  Zoe Davies, POINT’s manager, explained that this is a three-year project which will run until 2023. A purpose-built soundproofed room has been created for those who want a face-to-face consultation. A course of counselling will last for up to eight weeks and people can self-refer.

Jessica Palmer, the Nurturing the Future project manager, said: “If you are a young person and you want to self-refer, please go to ‘Contact Us’ on the website www.pointypt.org.uk and fill out the confidential ‘Send a Message’ section.  Someone will get back to you as soon as possible. Or go to https://www.pointypt.org.uk/counselling-support-for-young-people/ for a referral form.”

There is an expectation that the counselling service will quickly become oversubscribed. For more information, please go to the POINT website

POINT operates a six-days-a-week service, which has of course been affected by the pandemic, but it has been creative in its approach to keeping everyone safe. Only ten people can actually come to the centre at any one session, so booking is necessary; but hot meals for just 25p are still being provided  for those who want them.

For those who can’t or don’t want to mix with others, the option to make contact by phone, text or social media is available. The befriending/mentoring service, which has been a great success, is also available, and volunteers  are being trained in youth mental health first aid.

Jessica Palmer said: “There is a lot of information on the website but we really welcome direct contact too. So please feel free to call us on 01348 871887.”
