Navigators Are Back!

Ben and Jana Davidson and  trusted colleagues set up the first Navigators group in Wales, in Fishguard, last year (September 2019).

At the time we talked about the scouting movement which Jana has been involved in for many years, and I asked what was different between traditional Scouting/Guiding and Navigators?

“Scouting is a great movement,” Jana explained, “but there are set rules which apply wherever one lives. We feel there are particular needs in a rural community like ours and Navigators allows each group to set their own agenda.”

Young Navigators

The  young people who joined back then set about working with the local community and enjoying all their adventures and activities such as bushcraft, camping, abseiling, paintballing, zorbing, and arts and crafts, not forgetting life skills.

There is so much pressure to fit in these days.” Jana told us then. “We Navigators are relaxed, friendly and tolerant. We are teaching traditional values like respect and good manners. We want people to know that this is a safe place for everyone and that it’s okay to be yourself.

“It’s important to be part of community.  Having a sense of belonging and taking part in local things are crucial. ”

But of course the pandemic meant that face-to-face activities became out of the question in spring 2020 and many of the wonderful summer plans had to be put on hold.

Now Navigators are back, to everyone’s delight, and the fun can start again.
