Welsh Football Magazine Launches Art Competition

This competition has come our way from Welsh Football magazine, launching a football-themed competition for Welsh artists…

We are pleased to announce a new initiative and a first for Welsh Football magazine – an art competition!

We are inviting artists based in Wales to submit images of works on the theme of:

“Beautiful Game, Beautiful Wales”

As part of our mission to promote and celebrate the joys of football in Wales, we want to encourage artists, illustrators and graphic designers to create works that feature the game we love and the wonderful places in Wales that stage it.

The Theme

The theme allows a wide variety of interpretations: all submissions are welcome and will be considered.

However, we particularly encourage submissions that feature Welsh football venues, their architecture and their landscapes (past or present).

We realise that it’s currently not possible to attend a match in Welsh domestic football but hope artists will overcome this challenge: games may be paused or behind closed doors at present, but the grounds and their scenic backdrops are there in all their glory. Alternatively, submissions may of course draw inspiration from imagination, or from memories or past photographs of great games.

The theme can be taken as literally or as loosely as you wish – and we hope to see a wide range of different styles and interpretations.

Submissions

Work should be two-dimensional and in any media.
Photographs are not eligible (but we hope to run a separate photographic competition in the new year).

Original work can be either physical or digitally created, but all entries should be in the form of digital images. Please submit good-quality, medium-size JPEGs to the competition email address welshfootballartwork@gmail.com.

Each submission should be accompanied by the following information:
• Name of artist
• Age (if under 18)
• Title of work
• Description (optional, up to 40 words)
• Medium of original work
• Contact details (website and/or email)*

We plan to offer a small cash prize to the overall winner, whose work will be featured (fully credited) as a cover image on an issue of Welsh Football.

We also hope that we will be able to showcase and promote Welsh artists who are interested in football-related commissions.

Closing date for submissions: 15 December 2020

She spends her time searching out stories for pembrokeshire.online, swimming in the sea , drawing and painting as Snorkelfish and eating cake. She says "Pembrokeshire.online has been an opportunity to celebrate this beautiful county and its people. Keep the stories coming. We love to hear from you."
