Wanted: Poems of Pilgrimage

Established in 1988,Journeying is a non-profit-seeking, ecumenical Christian organisation that takes small groups of people to beautiful and often remote places in Britain and Ireland, in the spirit of pilgrimage. DAVID GLEED – on behalf of the Journeying team – has sent us this information about its poetry competition.

Journeying is delighted to announce the first Journeying Poetry Competition.

Poems inspired by a pilgrim journey to one or other of the Christian pilgrimage sites of Britain and Ireland – or by a longing to undertake that journey – are invited for the competition.

Entries should be emailed to info@journeying.co.uk and arrive no later than midnight on Saturday 23 October 2021. The winning entry will be announced on the 15 November 2021.

Just one entry per person. There is no charge.

Entries must be original and not previously published elsewhere. All entries will be judged anonymously. Copywrite remains with the author.

The winner will receive a first competition certificate signed by the judges and 10% discount on any one of next year’s pilgrim holidays from Journeying. The winning poem will be published on the Journeying website.

David Arkell

Pilgrim poet, just retired from teaching after 30 years, now working in Dorset as organist and choir director at a rural village church.

David’s book of poetry Divine Loves was published in 2019.
