Take a Virtual Step to Alleviate Loneliness

Age Cymru

Age Cymru will launch its Take a Big Step Around Wales campaign in October.

It is asking as many people as possible to join in on the 1,047-mile virtual walk, run or cycle around the circumference of Wales.

The intention of the new campaign is to raise funds to combat loneliness which is on the rise among older people. It is asking people to walk virtually along the wonderful Wales Coast Path, from South to North Wales, then southbound via the historic Offa’s Dyke trail.

If you would like to join in, you will need to register and then simply record your step total or mileage and enter it onto the online portal to help achieve the two-million step target.

All donations raised through sponsorship will go directly to funding two of the charity’s major lifeline services for older people. Both services rely on donations and fundraising to make them sustainable.

Age Cymru Advice says that in 2020-21 it answered more than 25,000 enquiries through its free, confidential and impartial service. It provided older people with information and advice on a wide range of issues and it also offers a befriending service.

Age Cymru says that £10 raised could be used to answer an advice enquiry to an older person and £15 could support friendship calls to two older people every week.
