Craft and Grow

Pembrokeshire FRAME, a charity that supports individuals with mental health issues and learning disabilities through its reuse work, is looking for 12 people to join six-week workshops in its soon to be launched Craft and Grow courses in reupholstery, upcycling and woodwork.

Craft workshops will help the charity in its quest to reduce household goods going to landfill sites.

The activities are being held every Wednesday for upcycling, Thursday for woodwork and Friday for reupholstery, starting the first week of March 2022. Participants can try their hand at creating, repairing and transforming a range of items including painted picture frames, mirrors and signs, hedgehog homes and bat boxes, fabric noticeboards and chic upholstered stools.

These courses have been made possible thanks to funding from the Supporting Community Action Fund – winter pressures round, a joint scheme supported by Pembrokeshire Association of Voluntary Services (PAVS), Pembrokeshire County Council and the Welsh Government. The free sessions will run from 10am until 12pm, and all equipment and tools are provided.

Paul Hughes, chief officer, Pembrokeshire FRAME, said: “We are delighted to be able to offer these free taster craft courses, thanks to funding from the Supporting Community Action Fund. All activities are free of charge and will help us to support the community to learn new skills and reduce waste.

“Following the impacts of the pandemic we recognise the value of these courses in supporting the mental health and wellbeing of individuals in our community. Particularly as we emerge from the pandemic during the colder months, these courses will give individuals the chance to learn or develop new craft techniques, meet new people, make friends and have fun in a relaxed and friendly environment”.

The Craft and Grow sessions scheduled start dates are:

Wednesday 2 March 2022 for six-week Upcycling Workshops

Thursday 3 March 2022 for six-week Woodwork Workshops

Friday 4 March 2022 for six-week Re-upholstery Workshops

These activities are being held in workshops at Merlin’s Bridge FRAME and Green Shed sites and will be limited to four people per workshop.
