Daffodil – a Poem from Aline Page

Illustrations by Aline Page

Golden orb trembling,

Moved by minuscule breeze,

Humming with sunny vitality,

Harnessing, seizes the day.

Ridged curvaceous petals and leaves unfurled,

Flanking fluted trumpet firmly projects,

Frilly-edged, heralding the presence

Of warm bounteous ceraceous haven within.

Stamen centred and protected,

Pollen carpeted and coated anthers beckon,

Welcoming clambering bugs and bees,

Fine-haired, buzzing as proboscis tease

To release deep-seated scented nectar.

The gently swaying arced sturdy stem

Vibrates as it bridges invisible space,

Conveying movement around its ribbed circumference,

Signalling and sending today’s data to its core.

Lubricated within by gelatinous curtains,

Flowing with nourishing sappy secretions,

That surround the tapered hollow interior.

Sun-drenched particles quantum mechanically bend,

Bounce and zigzag, traverse this tubular pipe-path,

Amplifying energy transference at the speed of light,

Gathering, magnifying in the snugly buried bulbous base.

Stored, utilised and radially transmitted

Via expanding matrix rooted networks,

Exploring damp, clumpy, lumpy soil, bacteria,

Chemically enriching gaseous exchanges,

That fuel life enhancing pulsating possibilities, potentiality.

Kitty has forgotten how long she has been here now but she loves Pembrokeshire for its beauty and it's people. She spends her time searching out stories for pembrokeshire.online, swimming in the sea , drawing and painting as Snorkelfish and eating cake. She says "Pembrokeshire.online has been an opportunity to celebrate this beautiful county and its people. Keep the stories coming. We love to hear from you."
