Making Things Better for the Hard of Hearing

The Sign & Share Club, which gives improved access for deaf and hard of hearing people, reports…

“In 2023 the Millennium Stadium Charitable Trust gave the Sign & Share Club a grant to use on trips and events. With this money we were able to take 29 people in July to the Brecon Mountain Railway, 22 people on a trip to Castle Coch in September, and 24 people to see Beauty and the Beast at the Torch Theatre, Milford Haven.

“The funding has allowed members of the club to visit places of interest which are not easy to access when they have specific communication needs. With the grant funding we were able to pay for transport, interpreters, and volunteers to ensure everyone was able to be fully involved during our trips.

“One of our members said: ‘I joined Sign & Share Club during lockdown and became reclusive like many other people. The trips that I have enjoyed with the club have increased my confidence tremendously as we have excellent support, and communication is so much easier. We have been able to visit places that I would never have been able to visit on my own, and I have made so many wonderful new friends.’

‘The club welcomes anyone who is deaf or hard of hearing and we meet twice a month in the Pembrokeshire area.
