Freya Sets Sail for the Record Books
By FREYA TERRY
My name is Freya Terry. I’m 21 years old and I grew up here in Pembrokeshire. I first learned to sail when I was just 12 at Fishguard Yacht Club, and I’ve been sailing and competing locally and nationally ever since.
This summer, setting off on 11 May, I’m embarking on an extraordinary solo sailing journey around Great Britain and Ireland to raise awareness of mental health issues, especially among young people. Covering more than 2,300 nautical miles and visiting approximately 80 locations, I aim to set a new record as the youngest and first female to sail solo around the UK and Ireland.
At each stop along my journey, I’ll be hosting talks and discussions with local communities, children and young people. I’ll share my experiences, insights and strategies for coping, with the goal of reducing the fear and stigma associated with asking for help.
