Mae’n ei gofio fel lle bywiog arbennig ac er nad yw hi yn byw yma bellach, dyma lle mae ei chalon yn perthyn a dyma lle mae hi’n dychwelyd bob cyfle bosib, gan fod ei Mam a’i brawd a’i deulu yn byw yn lleol.

Fe ychwanegodd, “ Er mwyn i ni ddechrau mynd mewn i hwyl yr wyl a gwisgo yn ysblennydd mewn sequins a sglein ar gyfer yr achlysur, r’ydem yn bwriadu creu gweithdy creu gwisgoedd yn Ffwrn, Dydd Sadwrn yr 22ain o Fehefin rhwng 3 a 6 y pnawn. Fe fydd cystadleuaeth gwisgoedd yn ystod ABBAGWAUN felly dewch i greu gwisg wefreiddiol wedi ei selio ar eich hoff gan neu bersonoliaeth ABBA.

Pembrokeshire has its very own Dancing Queen in the form of Gwenno Dafydd and she has big plans to turn her beloved Fishguard into Summer Night City for one weekend in July this year, and  who knows? – maybe every year thereafter.

Gwenno grew up on the Pencaer Peninsula in North Pembrokeshire and went to school in Fishguard. She remembers it as a special vibrant place and although she doesn’t live here anymore, it is where her heart belongs and where she returns whenever she can, as her mother, brother and family live locally.

Gwenno has been the instigator of a number of projects here over the years, from the Pembrokeshire Banner, which lives in the East Cloister of St Davids Cathedral, to the St Davids Anthem, which the Pembrokeshire Banner is based on, co-written with  Heulwen Thomas. This has been used in St David’s Day services at the cathedral  and in the recent pilgrimage project linking Ireland and Pembrokeshire with Ancient Connections.

Now she has gathered a team together to realise a dream. She plans to turn Abergwaun into Abbagwaun from Friday 5 July to Sunday 7July .

“We are just finalising a packed programme of events,” Gwenno told us. “It’s 50 years since Abba won the Eurovision Song Contest. We have a cracking team of really enthusiastic and determined people who I am very grateful to for supporting my idea, who want to make a big noise that says: ‘Thank you for the music.

“We will be releasing a programme very soon which will include cocktails, karaoke, disco, our own Eurovision Sandcastle Competition, quizzes, an Abba SwimalongSingalong and much more.”

She adds: “In order to help us all get in the mood and be fabulously dressed in sparkles and sequins for the occasion, we are planning a costume-making session at Ffwrn on 22 June 22 between 3 and 6pm. There will be a costume competition during Abbagwaun so come and make a cozzy based on your favourite Abba song or personality.

“The workshop will be run by Heulwen Reynolds who used to be the textile teacher in Ysgol Bro Gwaun. Everyone is welcome. We really want to light up the town and have some fun.”

Posters will be appearing around the town soon.
