Haven for Aliens?

Did you know that, like the Bermuda Triangle, Wales has its very own Broad Haven Triangle? It’s where several UFO sightings were reported in the 1970s.

A sighting took place at Broad Haven, a popular seaside resort close to St Bride’s Bay, south Pembrokeshire, on 4 February, 1977. It was said that  14 children observed a yellow, cigar-shaped craft landing in a field next to Broad Haven Primary School. They also reported a silver creature.

On 17 February teachers and other witnesses also claimed to have seen the UFO.

In April that year the then owner of the Haven Fort Hotel, Little Haven, reported what he described as an “upside-down saucer” and two alien creatures in a field.

Following an investigation by the Ministry of Defence, no evidence was found and the sightings were assumed to be a hoax, but the story remains part of local folklore.

While you are unlikely to meet any little green (or silver) men at Broad Haven (Welsh: Aberllydan), it’s still a lovely place to visit.

Broad Haven and Little Haven together form the Havens. There’s a Blue Flag west-facing beach there, a place for bathing, surfing, windsurfing and sailing. There is also Lion Rock to investigate which has interesting geological features.
