From Nine Wells to Caerfai Bay

I was fortunate enough to walk the coast path between Nine Wells and Caerfai Bay a couple of days before the full force of Storm Darragh hit Pembrokeshire. But even then, at times, it was impossible to walk in a straight line as the wind from the south-west tried its best to flatten me.
The footpath that runs from Nine Wells down by the stream flowing fast to Porth y Rhaw, though, was sheltered and, as can be seen from the pictures above and below, filled with December beauty.

Where the stream met the sea, a place of heavenly stillness and peace, I turned west, climbing up onto the coast path and into the wind.

Apart from the strengthening gale and the familiar ups and downs of following the coast, the walking here was relatively easy with a wide, green carpet of grass laid out before me. The views over the sea to the islands and down the steep drops to dramatic inlets continually amaze, with Caer Bwdy Bay being particularly appealing.

And then there is Caerfai Bay, a wild yet sublime place to contemplate the power of nature to absorb us – and put us in our place.
