Art Workshops with Raul Speek

If you have not already come across Raul Speek – and if you love colour and vibrancy – we really think you should.

A Cuban-born artist and musician who has made his home in Solva, Raul was born in Guantánamo in 1958 He studied at the San Alejandro Academy of Fine Arts in Havana before moving to the UK in 1991.

Since 1995, Raul  has lived and worked in Solva, where he and his wife, Heather, run the Raul Speek Gallery from a converted chapel.

Raul’s work is vivid and expressive, often reflecting themes of identity, culture and his Cuban heritage.

In addition to painting, Raul is also a composer and saxophonist, often blending visual and musical art in his exhibitions and performances.

The gallery hosts a variety of events, including art workshops, exhibitions and community projects, helping to make contemporary art accessible to all.

Heather, a fine photographer in her own right, has told us that we are fast approaching the first of a series of workshops taught by Raul to take place this summer: “I should warn you that sometimes he runs over time, so it’s wise to allow an extra half hour or so.  Please call to book as numbers are limited.”
