Lighting Costing Less

Pembrokeshire council has saved some £1.5m a year since implementing changes to part-night and LED street lighting over 10 years ago.
The changes involved lighting for only part of the night, and all street lighting being replaced
In 2016 street lighting in core dusk-dawn areas was replaced with low-energy LED units. Since then, the rest of the part-night lamps have been converted to LED.
It is said that Pembrokeshire has the same number of street lights as it had 10 years ago, but that the cost has much improved.
Some councillors expressed concerns that areas where lighting had been discontinued could be a target for crime but a report suggests that this is not the case.
