Hope for Milford Haven Library

Well, it’s not all bad news as we scoot into 2026.  According to Pembrokeshire county councillors, Milford Haven residents have agreed to a potential £3.35 annual contribution to go towards the support of their local library.

Taking into account the issues the library already faced following its permanent building having been sold in 2024, councillors have expressed concern that the cuts could have a profound effect on services.

Complaints have been voiced that Haverfordwest Library seems to have the favour of Pembrokeshire County Council, and the call has been made to address Milford’s concerns at losing this valuable resource.

Councillors have responded that they are working in partnership with the town council and Milford Haven Port Authority on ways to improve the financial sustainability of the library.

Milford Haven’s library has been based at the town’s Cedar Court for the past 16 years, with its lease running up to 2034, members heard.

A survey of local people revealed that 89 per cent of residents were in favour of an addition to their council tax of just over £3 per annum in support of their library.

The issue continues to be assessed.
