Barbara Price: A Journey Through Painting
Barbara Price achieved her degree in textiles at the West Surrey College of Art and went on to Cardiff University. She taught at a private school in Bournemouth before moving to Wales in 1982.
She has been settled in Pembrokeshire since 1992 where she concentrates on her art and introducing adults learners to all the joys and challenges of painting and drawing.
“My paintings take me on a journey from one subject to another and I often use different media,” Barbara says. She doesn’t favour one particular medium, finding that experimentation means her favourite is the one she happens to be using in the moment.
The textile influence is clear in Barbara’s art. Her life in North Pembrokeshire is a great inspiration, with themes such as rural life past and present, and the local people, and she is greatly affected by colour, noting how much environment and time of day affect us .
She speaks about trying to capture the magic of Pembrokshire’s wildness, the incredible light, and her obsession with shadows and mysterious dark tones of colour.
Barbara painted a visual diary of her journey after being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012 which has been featured in a number of magazines. Some of these articles can be found in the following publications: Artists and Illustrators magazine (Jan 2014), the Western Mail and Wales Online.
