Samara Goring – How I Changed My Life

Sam and her girls

Samara Goring contacted us recently about her life and work and her successes in achieving her goals. We are always impressed by people who find something that works for them and who then put their energies into helping others. Here is what Samara had to say

“I am originally from Hayling Island, Portsmouth. I moved to Pembrokeshire in 2017 with my boyfriend, Adam. We met in Chichester, West Sussex, and, as a Welshman, he was keen to return to his homeland. He was working in outdoor education at the time, so we ended up moving to Johnston, Pembrokeshire, where he had been offered some work and I very quickly fell in love with the place. We moved to Letterston when I was pregnant with our first daughter and have been there ever since.

“As I was a qualified plumber, Slimming World was worlds away from any job I’d had before, but knowing the difference that my consultant made to my life and my ever-present longing to find a job in which I could help others, I decided to give it a go!

“I have always enjoyed sports and currently play football with Fishguard Ladies. I’m also interested in walking, running and kickboxing, and in 2018 I won my first full contact bout in The Battle for the Border.

“I had been training at kickboxing on and off since the age of about 13, I was very lean as a teenager and found training very easy. After having a break from the sport until moving to Wales, I had gained a fair bit of weight and at the time of my competing in 2018 I was the heaviest I’d ever been, this made training a lot harder for me. I also have a bad habit of comparing my current self with my past self and find it really difficult to accept when I’ve put on weight. I also feel that my pregnancies put more strain on my body than they needed to because of my weight gain and I have suffered with weight-related symptoms during and after both.

“I don’t think anybody has ever put pressure on me to lose weight except myself, I am my own harshest critic.

“I think a lot of people feel pressure to be a certain size, whether that be because of health issues, the media, or their own views. There are so many people made to feel guilty for eating – for me this is totally counterproductive and only aids in the development of eating disorders.

“Slimming World, for me, offered a sustainable way of living. The plan allows you to eat as much ‘free’ food as you wish, while also being able to enjoy limited amounts of more energy-dense foods, thus banishing hunger, guilt and the feeling of missing out!

Samara and Slimming World

“Slimming World changed my life, it made me feel good, supported me to my target weight and helped me hugely with anxiety. This is what inspired me to become a weight-loss consultant, I want to help as many other people to feel the way I felt, and hopefully to change their life as mine was changed.

“During lockdown, I run virtual sessions. We normally meet on Tuesdays at Letterston Memorial Hall from 5pm.

“My number is 07498322314 and booking is essential at the moment.”
