Children Celebrate Welsh Culture

Children from all over Pembrokeshire took part in a summer solstice festival (Gŵyl Hirddydd Haf) celebrating Welsh language and culture on 20 June.

The event took place at Urdd Centre, Pentre Ifan, with 140 Year Five pupils from ten different schools

Organisers said the celebration included language-based games, poetry, woodland walks, art, mindfulness and Welsh music and culture.

Pembrokeshire County Council and Menter Iaith Sir Benfro, with support from the Urdd and Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, organised the event.

The children burnt written promises for the future along with an effigy of Twrch Trwyth, the mythical wild boar.

It is hoped the event will become an annual celebration.
