A Philosophy for Life
KATE ASHLEY, a witty woman with her own philosophy for living, shares it with us…

Kate says: “I wrote this 12 years ago. I stand by it, but I do think I’m a bit of a pompous ass too…”
As I get older I find I have less and less patience for self-pity and people who expect other people to sort their lives out. This is because I have seen people go through hell and keep walking. I then see other people blaming everyone but themselves for their troubles, troubles that we all deal with. Bad times are not a free pass to be carried.
So here it is – the Kate Ashley philosophy for life. Take responsibility for yourself. Do not expect others, individuals or the state to carry you, unless you are truly beyond helping yourself, in which situation do not be too proud to accept help.
Develop some personal pride, do stuff you don’t want to if it is for the greater good. Be impeccable in your word. Be a keeper of others’ confidences. Don’t be an “I keep out of it” person; when people are being hurt, stand up and take their side.
Call out injustice. Accept that nobody wants to go to work – it’s what you do to pay your dues and have the satisfaction of supporting yourself as an adult.
Do good and then disappear, don’t wait around to be thanked, otherwise you are doing it for your ego. If you have a choice between being right and being kind – be kind.
Have a work ethic. Return favours; better yet – do the favour first. Share all that you have. Stop moaning, nobody wants to hear it. If you have an issue, let’s hear it – passive aggressive bulls*** only hurts you and others.
And finally, remember you are an eternal being having a human experience. Your body is just the overcoat you wear, stop basing your self-esteem on your physical appearance and concentrate on making your soul beautiful.
What is your philosophy for life? We would be delighted to hear from you.

Kate Ashley was born and raised oop North, which may be why she has all the tact of a raging bull elephant and a big warm heart that she does her best to conceal. Now living in Goodwick, she mostly worked with older people which dismally failed to prepare her for the audacity of the entropy fairy arriving on her own doorstep. Nowadays she is mostly retired from saving Universes, though she volunteers for Samaritans and Greenacres animal rescue, continuing to annoy the management in both establishments. Like every other woman her age she has taken up sea swimming and micro
camping and a grammar obsession. She has many other hobbies, that she takes up if possible and then abandons. She attributes this to the gin.
