Emily Davis is Back with Two Sparkling Shows
A former pupil of Ysgol y Preseli, Emily Davis has gone on to make her mark on the London cabaret and theatre scene with her original one-woman musical comedies. She’s performed at the Wales Millennium Centre, and wowed crowds at top London venues including the Phoenix Arts Club, Toulouse Lautrec Jazz Club and the Pheasantry. But for Emily, the heart always pulls her back to Pembrokeshire – and this June she returns with two very different performances that showcase the full range of her talent.
First up, she will appear as Sombra in HOS Musical Theatre’s summer production of The Arcadians. Sombra is a gentle, curious spirit from the idyllic land of Arcadia – a place untouched by the hustle and hypocrisy of modern life. Naive but open-hearted, she ventures into the outside world determined to spread truth, kindness and a bit of Arcadian wisdom. With her natural warmth and soaring vocals, Emily brings sincerity, sparkle and emotional depth to this central role.
Then, on Friday 28 June, Emily takes to the stage at Newport Memorial Hall with her brand-new original show Escape the Rat Race – a musical comedy about breaking free from the grind of city life and finding joy in unexpected places. This marks her fourth solo show.
Each show draws on Emily’s own experiences as a Welsh woman making her way in the world, blending music, storytelling and satire to create something that’s as relatable as it is entertaining. Whether she’s recounting awkward office politics, London Tube chaos or the pull of hiraeth, her work resonates deeply – especially with audiences who know what it means to feel out of place, or long for home.
But it’s Emily’s voice that truly sets her apart. With a stunning range that can move you to tears one moment and have you dancing in the aisles the next, she commands the stage with rare versatility.
Emily says: “I always bring my new work home to Pembrokeshire – it’s where I started performing, and where I feel most connected. These shows are about real life, really. If people leave having laughed, felt something and maybe sung along, that’s a good night!”
