Hopes of a Fishguard Square Revival

Many will remember Fishguard Square as a thriving, well-used public space back in the 1970s. It was “a natural gathering place – a social, civic and economic hub for Fishguard”, according to Teresa Hennessy who has been instrumental in breathing life back into the area.
She says: “Over the years, a series of road and pavement changes have chipped away at its usability, turning it into more of a thoroughfare than a proper place for people.”
Teresa believes It could and should be something far better. She and the Friends of Fishguard Square envisage a welcoming, vibrant space where people meet, linger, and enjoy their town.
She says: “We know there are fantastic businesses on the square… furnishing their areas of the square, but we’re looking at it as a whole… throughout the year.”
