Wanted: A Room by the Sea

We had a meeting recently with a delightful man seeking to move back to the Fishguard and Goodwick area from where he is currently living in Cardigan.

Colin Hume works as a live-in carer in shifts, so he is looking for a shared house or something similar to live when he is having time away from work – which is two weeks on and two weeks off. Essentially he needs a home for two weeks of the month and can pay up to £500 for a space to relax and catch up with his daughter.

Coll has had an interesting life with lots of travel. Born into a naval family in Penzance, Cornwall. He moved to Northumberland when he was seven, later attending a Quaker school in North Yorkshire.

He says: “This was a great time for me and introduced me to other young people from all over the world and allowed me a grounding in spirituality, which is a major part of my life.”

And that has been important for Coll, who has spent his life working in graphic design, journalism, and photography in the fashion industry. He has travelled widely but on his first visit to Pembrokeshire over 15 years ago he found an unexpected peace that caused him to bring his wife and children to search for a home here, which they found two years later.  He began doing care work when covid hit and, now in his fifties, he intends to continue with this work for the foreseeable future.

“I love coastal walks and the Preseli Hills, the stone circles and the woodlands,” he says. “I need to unwind on my two weeks off from my work and have a dry comfortable place to meditate and practise my yoga. I am a reiki healer, massage therapist and perfectly happy with pets. I have an 11-year-old daughter who I want to be able to stay with me for a weekend every two or three weeks.”

Looking for a lodger? Because of the nature of his work, Colin says he has a current DBS (criminal record check).
