Tea with Sian – 2: Twr Y Felin Hotel

I took afternoon tea at Twy Y Felin Hotel in St Davids – a very modern place with contemporary art throughout the building. It also has a chic piano bar which I really liked.
We were shown to our table by polite and friendly staff. The seating area was comfortable with a trendy atmosphere about it.
One of my favourite parts of this experience was being able to choose my own tea. A lady appeared with a wooden box full of different teas in small glass containers, and I was able to take the lids off and smell the different aromas before eventually deciding on the cooling mint infusion as it smelt so fresh and inviting. I thought this box of tea idea was brilliant. The tea was served in a glass pot with another pot of hot water and a mini-timer to brew the perfect cup.
Afternoon tea was presented on a dark brown small drawer – with different sections that held all the goodies. We had a selection of sandwiches, carrot cake, scones, Welsh cakes, raspberry macaroons and a chocolate ganache.
The price for afternoon tea was £25 per person.
The restaurant is on the site of an old windmill and is designed to reflect the simplicity, elegance and history of the former building, It says: “We offer a menu of contemporary dining, inspired by the season and locality, echoing Wales and its produce. Sourced from predominantly Pembrokeshire and Welsh suppliers, the raw ingredients are fresh and where possible originate from the surrounding countryside and coast.”

Sian Walker says: “I have lived in Pembrokeshire all 38 years of my life. Always loved art and writing and did fashion and textiles at college. Started writing poetry in 2012, self-published a poetry book in 2013 and was opening poet at the Celtic Women’s Festival in 2013, where I shared the same stage with the musician Amy Wadge. I also had my own poetry group for two years in Narberth. I love attending the Hay Festival and people-watching while I’m there. I love all things gothic and quirky and I hate plain socks! I also love to travel and have been lucky enough to sail on two tall ships. One of my hobbies is to make artificial wreaths for different occasions and I hope next year to attend craft fairs with them. I love the beach and am at my happiest when I’m there with the smell of the sea in the air.
