‘Save Our Pub’ Meeting and Appeal

We recently posted a plea from Hayscastle Cross for local support to keep local pub the Cross Inn open. It has been in the same family since 1861 and there were some fears that when it is sold, it might lose its character or, worse, cease to be the vibrant meeting place it is at the moment for locals.

Since a public meeting on 15 August which was well attended and where advice was heard from Chris Tomos who works with community and environmental projects, the village has put a team together to move things forward.

The next meeting, planned for  the 27th September, is for the community to democratically elect a committee

Clive Hampton, speaking for the group, said: “We are looking for as many people as possible to join us in this venture and all offers of support will be welcomed. We already have an excellent bookkeeper; however, if there’s a retired solicitor or accountant, who wishes to help, that would be great. Someone is handling the IT etc, but further skills would be most welcome in setting up the website. But we are not just seeking specialised skills. If you would like to get involved in any way please come along to our next meeting. We will probably have to raise around £225,000, with the hope of getting that match-funded with grant aid. The purchase price is £299,000 so all support will be most welcome.”

The 27th September meeting will be at Noddfa Chapel, Newton Cross, at 7pm.
