Ers yr oedd yn blentyn, mae Lisa Shelmerdine Richards, bob amser wedi bod wrth ei bodd yn cyfansoddi cerddoriaeth ac ym mis Mehefin eleni bydd ei dyhead yn cyrraedd uchelfannau newydd wrth i’r athro ysgol o Sir Benfro berfformio ei cherddoriaeth ei hun ar ei hoff lwyfan lleol. Yn ei sioe gyntaf o’i cherddoriaeth byw ei hun, bydd Lisa a’i hartistiaid cefnogol yn dangos ystod o’i chaneuon gwreiddiol o’r enw ‘We’re Going Live” yn Theatr y Torch, Aberdaugleddau.

Yn 2020, fe wnaeth y fam i ddau o blant, Lisa, sy’n athro cerdd yn Ysgol Uwchradd Hwlffordd, osod her bersonol iddi hi ei hun i ryddhau un gân newydd sbon pob mis am flwyddyn. Pan darodd y pandemig a rhaid oedd i bawb aros adref, gweithiodd Lisa o adref a glynodd at ei her gan gynyddu i ysgrifennu 20 o ganeuon newydd. Ar y dechrau, creodd hyn nifer o broblemau yn enwedig y dysgu serth a newydd a wynebai o ran recordio, cynhyrchu a golygu. Er hynny, creodd hefyd gyfle gwych a ganiataodd i draciau Lisa gael eu recordio ar draws y DU ac yn fyd-eang wrth i recordio digidol osgoi unrhyw gyfyngiadau ar deithio.

“Roedd byw a gweithio ar wahân yn heriol i gynifer o bobl. Fel strategaeth ymdopi, penderfynais wynebu’r heriau newydd yn uniongyrchol a sicrhau fy mod yn cyrraedd fy nod o gyfansoddi ar gyfer 2020 trwy recordio’r gerddoriaeth o bell. Mewn gwirionedd, agorodd y pandemig ddrysau mewn perfformiad rhithwir a oedd yn sicr wedi cael ei le ac yn parhau i fod. Ond ni allwch guro perfformiadau byw a bydd perfformio’r gerddoriaeth yn fyw yn Theatr y Torch bellach yn anhygoel” meddai Lisa.

Yn ystod y cyfnod clo a phan oedd drysau’r theatrau wedi cau, comisiynwyd Lisa i ysgrifennu darn newydd sbon o gerddoriaeth ar gyfer Cerddorfa West End Cymru, cwmni buddiannau cymunedol a ffurfiwyd yn ystod y pandemig.

Pan ryddhawyd y gân, fe wnaeth y trac “Win this Fight Alone” a gafodd sylw ar raglen radio’r BBC gan Roy Noble, hefyd sylw gan Radio Cymru ac ITV News.

Dydd Iau 1 Mehefin fydd y cyfle cyntaf i glywed cerddoriaeth Lisa yn cael ei pherfformio’n fyw a dyna pam y bydd y teitl addas “We’re Going Live”, yn rhywbeth y mae Lisa wedi dyheu am ei wneud ers y cyfnod clo. Bydd band byw 8-darn yn chwarae pob un o’i thraciau amrywiol yn cynnwys nifer o wahanol arddulliau gan gynnwys pop, roc, electronig, gwlad, theatr gerdd a chlasurol. Bydd Joe Morgan, Sarah Benbow ac Emilija Kaijaks yn cyflwyno’r noson gyda nifer o westeion arbennig yn ymddangos drwy gydol y sioe.

Bydd Perfformio’r Gerddoriaeth yn Theatr y Torch yn gwireddu breuddwyd i Lisa fel yr eglura:

“Rwy’n cofio fel plentyn mynd ar dripiau ysgol i Theatr y Torch a nawr rwy’n mynd â fy mhlant fy hunan yno’n rheolaidd. Mae’n un o theatrau mwyaf mawreddog de Cymru ac rwyf mor gyffrous i fod yn cyflwyno fy ngherddoriaeth fy hun yn y lleoliad hudolus hwn.

“Siaradais a siaradais am berfformio’r gerddoriaeth yn fyw ac yna un diwrnod gydag annogaeth a chefnogaeth fy nheulu a ffrindiau, meddyliais y byddai’n well i mi roi fy ngeiriau ar waith a chysylltu â Theatr y Torch. Ychydig iawn o fy ngherddoriaeth a ysgrifennwyd ar bapur gennyf gan fy mod wedi eu creu yn bennaf drwy’r glust. Rwyf bellach wedi treulio oriau ac oriau yn ysgrifennu a sgorio’r rhannau ar gyfer wyth aelod o’n band. Mae’r ysgrifennu wedi bod yn broses hir a llafurus, ond mae’r diwedd bellach yn y golwg, ymarferion wedi’u trefnu a bydd yr ochr hwyliog greadigol yn cymryd llawer o amser,” meddai Lisa sy’n cael ei chefnogi gan ei gŵr Nick a dau o blant, Cory (12) ac Holly sy’n wyth mlwydd oed.

Yn ogystal â’r band ar y llwyfan mae nifer o westeion arbennig gan gynnwys y canwr gitâr lleol John Rodge, Sarah Sharpe [cyn Bennaeth Cerdd Tasker Milward, Aelod o Bella Voce a The Connections a Chyfarwyddwr Cerdd Côr Meibion Hwlffordd], Bethan Harkin [cyn Bennaeth Cerdd a Drama Ysgol Bro Gwaun – hefyd aelod o Bella Voce] a Steffan Hughes [cydweithiwr cerddoriaeth Lisa yn Ysgol Uwchradd Hwlffordd – athrawes Cerdd a Drama].

“Gobeithiaf am gynulleidfa fawr braf a gweld teulu a ffrindiau yno. Bydd mynd allan yna a pherfformio o flaen cynulleidfa’n anhygoel. Rhaid diolch yn fawr iawn i gefnogaeth y Torch, y cerddorion ac i’r bobl a recordiodd y traciau o bell gan ddod â nhw oll yn fyw,” meddai Lisa, a ysgrifennodd, yn 2019, gerddoriaeth hysbyseb diwedd tymor ar gyfer Cwmni Beach Food Sir Benfro ble ymddangosodd yn y fideo cerdd lle’r ‘oedd hi’n canu’r piano wrth ymyl y dŵr yn Freshwater West.

Since she was a child, Lisa Shelmerdine Richards has loved composing music and this June that aspiration reaches new heights as the Pembrokeshire teacher performs her own music on her treasured local stage. In her first evening of her own live music and entertainment show, Lisa and supporting artists will showcase a host of her original songs in a night called We’re Going Live at The Torch Theatre, Milford Haven.

In 2019 Lisa, a music teacher at Haverfordwest High, wrote the end-of-season advert music for Pembrokeshire’s Beach Food Company; she featured in the music video actually playing piano at the water’s edge at Freshwater West.

In 2020 she set herself a personal challenge to release one brand new track each month of the year. When the pandemic hit and everyone had to stay at home, she worked remotely to uphold her challenge and increased the task to writing 20 new songs.

This initially posed many problems, especially the steep learning curve she faced when it came to recording, producing and editing. However, it also created a fantastic opportunity which allowed her tracks to be recorded across the UK and globally as digital recording bypassed any restrictions on travel.

“Living and working in isolation was challenging for so many people,” said Lisa. “As a coping strategy, I decided to face the new challenges directly and to reach my 2020 writing goal by recording the music remotely. In effect, the pandemic opened up doors in virtual performance which certainly have and continue to have their place. You cannot beat live performance, though, and to now be performing the music live at the Torch Theatre is just incredible.”

During lockdown, Lisa was commissioned to write a new piece of music for the West End of Wales Orchestra, a community interest company formed during the pandemic when theatres closed.

“Writing music for such an esteemed group of musicians was a wonderful experience. One of the most exciting parts of the writing process is thinking about who is going to play/sing the music,” said Lisa.

The track Win This Fight Alone featured on the Roy Noble Show, Radio Cymru, and ITV News also did a feature on the song’s release.

Thursday 1 June will be the first opportunity to hear Lisa’s music being performed live. An eight-piece live band will play each of her diverse tracks featuring many different styles including pop, rock, electronic, country, musical theatre and classical. Joe Morgan, Sarah Benbow and Emilija Kaijaks will present the evening with a number of special guests appearing throughout the show.

Lisa and her husband, Nick, have two children, Cory, 12, and Holly, eight.

She said: “I remember as a child going on school trips to the Torch Theatre and now I take my own children there regularly. I am so excited to be debuting my own music at this magical venue.

“I talked and talked about performing the music live and then one day encouraged and supported by family and friends, I thought I’d better put my words into action and approached the Torch. Very little of my music had been written down as I’d created it predominantly by ear. I’ve now spent hours and hours writing and scoring the parts for our eight band members. The writing has been a long and time consuming process, but the end is now in sight, rehearsals booked and the creative fun side will soon take over.”

We’re Going Live will be at Milford Haven’s Torch Theatre on Thursday 1 June at 7.30pm. Tickets: adults: £12/ £10; concessions and children’s tickets;  01646 695267, torchtheatre.co.uk.
