A Pilgrim Photographer’s Progress

Following her involvement in the Creative Camino pilgrimage project, Pembrokeshire photographer Karel Jasper is now doing an MA in fine art, specialising in photography at Aberystwyth University.
“I really enjoyed doing the pilgrimage photography project and wanted to carry on developing my own style of photography. Now just felt like the right time to do the MA,” she says.
“I love spending time in Aberystwyth, learning new things and meeting new people. It is also great having constructive feedback about my work, and some structure to my own enquiries within my creative work.”
There is a strong sense in her work of personal connection with her subject. What is most inspiring for her?
“Currently with my MA portfolio work I wanted to continue to explore what gives us a sense of belonging to the land we walk on and nature. I am working on an old 120 film camera reacquainting myself with film developing and darkroom printing.

“I have another exhibition of my pilgrimage work in Fishguard Library from 4 to 30 June, hopefully to be inspiring for people to get outside and to walk the pilgrimage or visit some of the special places we have to offer here in Pembrokeshire.
“I have also been accepted to a couple of joint exhibitions at the School of Art in Aberystwyth. One has just gone, I’m hoping to be in another one but not confirmed yet.”
