An unusual art scheme comes to an end on 28 September; Rhiannon Rees’s Gentle Painting Project is part of Narberth-based charity Span Arts’s Love Stories to Nature programme.
The organisers explain: “Rhiannon’s site-responsive practice merges her interest in sustainable painting practices with her Welsh heritage. Foraging for pigments and creating Welsh paints is key, it allows her to connect with her ancestral land. Rhiannon spends time in locations across Wales collecting industrial waste and natural materials to form her gentle paints which she uses as a way of engaging with the land. The Gentle Painting Project has been a chance for Pembrokeshire communities to map the beautiful colours of their home county.”
People have apparently been sending in dried earth samples to the Gentle Painting Project, at Span Arts, with a sample-location letter so they can be added to the map.
Rhiannon has held two workshops, in St Davids and Narberth, where participants learned how to make gentle paints using earth samples.
The project ends on 28 September at Templeton Community Hall, Templeton, Narberth SA67 8SB, 12.30pm to 3.30pm, with tea and painting where everyone will be able to use the gentle paints.
