Baddies Come Good at Clarbeston Road Panto

It was a delight, as always, to see the Clarbeston Road Players’ latest theatrical offering.

A matinee on Sunday 1 December had all you could ask from a good old pantomime, though the plot of Spiderella is a bit out of the ordinary.

One expects the goodies to win the day and the baddies to get their comeuppance, and we couldn’t possibly reveal how it all ends, but it’s not your usual storyline. Suffice it to say that this panto has a trio of evil characters , not counting Spiderella herself.

The Wicked Witch of the West (what a glorious cackling laugh from one so young), Captain Hook (formerly known as Captain Hand, apparently) and the Big Bad Wolf (no, not the Three Little Piggies one) all combine to deliver giggles and japes galore.

One of the things we especially love about Clarbeston is how many young ones are involved. It is a joy to see kids of all ages, from tots to teens, engaged with such a delightful community venture.

It is also lovely to see the commitment from so many veterans coming together and making these shows possible. So much work goes into the events, front and backstage, and the audiences clearly love to turn up and participate fully with all the booing and hissing and the “He’s behind yous”.

We aren’t going to single anyone out this time (though there are many excellent performances) because we think you should go and see Spiderella for yourselves.

Clarbeston Road Hall on Friday 6 December, Saturday 7 December at 7.30pm and Sunday 8 December at 2.30pm.

Tickets on the door or from www.ticketsource.co.uk/clarbeston-rd-players.
