Another Bank Bites the Dust

The recent announcement that Lloyds Bank will close its Pembroke Dock branch on 26 June has left many residents and businesses deeply concerned. This decision will significantly impact those who rely on in-person banking services, particularly elderly residents, small business owners, and those with limited access to online banking.
Not everyone is comfortable with or able to use online banking, and alternative options may be difficult to reach for many elderly and vulnerable customers.
The closure also presents challenges for local businesses. Many rely on local branches for cash deposits, change for tills, and quick in-person assistance with financial matters.
This closure is part of a worrying trend of banks shutting down local branches across the UK, leaving many towns and smaller communities without essential banking services. While digital banking continues to grow, it cannot fully replace the need for in-person support, especially in communities where internet access may be unreliable or where personal assistance is crucial.
Alternatives such as local credit unions and community banks may be a way ahead.
If you have ideas on how the community can adapt to this type of change, share your thoughts with your bank – and with us.
