Puffins: the Facts

Puffins don’t start breeding until they are over three years old, but once they find a mate, they stay with it for life – which can be as long as 20 years.

Each year they return to the same burrow – which they dug out themselves when they first met – and they produce one egg. The egg is taken care of by both parents and takes up to 45 days to hatch and reveal the new little “puffling”. Yep, that’s what they are called. Isn’t that grand?
