Friends of Cleddau Thank Volunteers
The Friends of the Cleddau wish to thank all surveyors and supporters. They want them to know that theirr Sundays have not been in vain.

They say: “Water flows, time passes – one year of testing is drawing to a close. Sunday 22 June marks the final test day of CCAP2 (Cleddau Catchment Assessment Project 2) and the end of an epic effort by the surveyor teams across Pembrokeshire. Let’s pat ourselves on the back and reflect on what’s been done and what the plan is to justify all of that effort.
“What have you done (give or take)? 24 Sundays, 90 volunteer surveyors, 49 test sites, 4,000 volunteer hours, 6,700 measurements, made new friends, got cold, given the Cleddau a voice.”
What happens next to the data?
“With the support of Pembrokeshire Coastal Forum, we have secured two undergraduate student placements who will be analysing the data over the summer. Between them they are reading environmental science, biology and oceanography at Southampton and Swansea universities. We’re also in the process of securing funding to commission a full, comprehensive, peer-reviewed report which will convert this huge effort into a tangible campaigning tool. This work will take a few months to complete.”
What will be done with the report?
“There’s a justifiable fear that reports like these gather dust or disappear into the ether. Mindful of this, we are determined to demonstrate that citizen scientists are critical to evidence gathering and policy making and cannot be ignored. The CCAP report aims to provide a high-quality, accessible, credible study which can be brandished in front of regulators and policymakers.”
