Are you a dog owner thinking of visiting Pembrokeshire this summer? Or maybe you have acquired a pooch for the first time and want to know where it will be welcome?
This region is often considered one of the most dog-friendly destinations in the UK. Whether you’re exploring coastal trails or relaxing in a pub garden, Pembrokeshire offers a wealth of activities and amenities tailored to both two-legged and four-legged visitors.
There are endless possibilities of walks. The county is home to the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, a 186-mile National Trail which hugs the cliffs and offers amazing sea views. Many sections are dog-friendly.

Pembrokeshire boasts countless beaches, many of which are dog-friendly year-round or have specific dog-friendly zones during the busy summer months. Broad Haven South, Freshwater West and Newgale are examples of wide, sandy beaches where dogs can play in the surf and dig to their heart’s content. Always check local signage, as some popular spots such as Tenby North Beach may have seasonal restrictions from May to September.
The Preseli Hills area makes for an atmospheric hike. Dogs can run freely in many open-access areas, and the cooler hilltop breezes are a relief during warm summer days.
Many holiday cottages, B&Bs and hotels cater for dog owners. Campsites Caerfai Bay and Celtic Camping allow dogs and are situated close to walking trails and dog-friendly beaches.

Carew Castle welcomes dogs on leads; Picton Castle Gardens also allows well-behaved dogs on leads in the woodland areas and walled gardens.
Many eateries feature dog-friendly patios or indoor seating areas. Try The Stackpole Inn, The Sloop Inn in Porthgain, or The Druidstone Hotel, all known for their dog-welcoming atmosphere.
Do remember to bring water and waste bags: many coastal areas are remote, so come prepared.
Check for livestock: In rural areas, keep your dog on a lead around farm animals.
Be aware of tides: tide changes can be dramatic, so plan beach walks accordingly.
