Manx Shearwater Rescue
The Manx Shearwater is a small seabird with straight wings which are black above and white below.
It breeds in the UK, where it can find safety from rats and other ground predators. The little birds leaves their nest around July, setting off for he coast of South America, where they spend the winter.
The Manx Shearwater Rescuers have been receiving calls from the public concerning some of those birds that have fledged recently and have got themselves into some difficulty.
The team says: “Please spread the word about dimming or switching off unnecessary lights on coastal areas, as these really do disorientate the young birds and sadly attract them inland.”
In addition they ask that we be vigilant and report any stranded Manx Shearwater. to them.
