Digging up the Past under Pembroke Castle

The archaeological dig going on beneath Pembroke Castle – Wogan Cavern, as it is called – has been something of a cornucopia, with evidence of human and animal activity, dating back around 120,000 years.

The University of Aberdeen will be exploring the site over the next five years, with it having already yielded finds, including bones from a wide range of animals that would have lived in the region long ago .These include hippo, woolly rhino, horses and reindeer and even mammoths.

It’s exciting news – which we hope to hear more of as the dig continues.
