Chess Makes Great Moves

Ceredigion/Pembrokeshire joined forces against a Carmarthenshire team for a major chess event in  Pembrokeshire on 13 June.

Organisers say: “Taking part were 28 adults, 30 juniors and 13 clubs all in one room. What makes this even more remarkable is that of the 13 clubs, eight didn’t exist just over a year ago, for 14 of the 13 juniors this was their first ever match, and for five of the adults the same.”

The result was an honourable draw.

More  events are planned:

August: 1st Pembrokeshire Junior Rapidplay Championships at Haverfordwest

September: Pembroke Chess Club opens – the fifth new club to open in Pembrokeshire in 13 months.

Also in September: Knight Moves – an outdoor evening Blitz Tournament.

October: 1st Haverfordwest Rapidplay open tournament.

January 2027: 1st Pembrokeshire Chess Club (Steynton) 1st Rapidplay Junior Tournament.

March 2027: 1st Pembrokeshire five-round Swiss Open Tournament.

April 2027: 2nd Fishguard Rapidplay Tournament.
