Animals Giving… and Receiving

Cŵn Cymorth Cariad | Cariad Pet Therapy is a truly positive way of bringing people and animals together.

Set up in 2018 this not for profit Community Interest Company provides therapy dogs: it has 115 dogs which visit healthcare, employers and educational settings in Wales and Scotland. In the past 12 months it has received 470 enquiries for therapy dog visits and has been recognised by a host of organisations such as Wellbeing in Wales Award at the Welsh Charity Awards, and Animal Loneliness Champion Mental Health. It has also been featured on ITV’s Good Morning Britain.

Its volunteers attended the National Lottery Big Bash event at Wembley arena this month – with Take That performing – as a gift from the lottery.

It has also just been presented with an award from S4C’s Pride of Wales and has a new funded project starting early next year in Pembrokeshire: https://www.cariadpettherapy.co.uk/.

Cariad Pet Therapy has also set up a pet food bank, which offers employability volunteering programmes, as well as much needed help to people who are finding feeding their pets a real struggle. Since January 2021 it has donated 256,882 pet food meals. Details on the website.

You would be elgiible if:

You would go without food yourself or be unable to heat your home if you did not have support from the pet food bank.

You have had a sudden change or a delay in your benefits.

You have suddenly become homeless.

You are in a controlling relationship or you are fleeing domestic abuse.

You have had an unexpected vet or household bill and you are on a low income.

A professional has identified you are in need, and they make a referral on your behalf.
