New Community Pantry For Fishguard and Goodwick
Hurrah…the valiant volunteers at the community pantry in Fishguard have worked their socks off to get everything shipshape for a reopening proper today.
This excellent resource that has prevented many thousands of kilos of food from going to landfill is the first of its kind in Wales.
Damaged a while ago, the old shed had to go and the brand spanking new accessible pantry has taken its place, equipped with flooring, wipe-clean walls and a new fridge. It now boasts one shed for storage and another where people can find food for free. Please note that donations are very welcome.
The whole venture has been funded by donations from individuals and by grants from Fishguard and Goodwick Town Council, Fishguard and District Round Table and an anonymous donor. Elaine Harvey’s also raised money with a raffle at the Rose and Crown pub
Many hands have made the project possible with Transition Bro Gwaun and Goodwick Gardening Club also raising funds, painting, and organising the installation of lino and insulation which were donated by Dan from D&M Maintenance and Matt Holder.
Demolishing and removing was no small task, undertaken by Dan and Rachel from Paddock Manor Owen, Dan from D&M Maintenance, Julia and Bruce, and Suzi and Sean.
The final touches have been completed with Transition Bro Gwaun, assisted by Adam Vincent from Trehale Farm and his team.
Now the pantry can go back to doing what it does best, collecting and sorting surplus food from local shops so the community can benefit with free food, and perfectly good food is saved from going to waste.

The pantry will be open to all from 10.30am to around 3.30pm every day except Thursday and Sunday.
