The Crown Estate and Devolution

Following the Crown Estate publishing its annual review, a new interest in estate assets being devolved to Wales, has arisen. This has previously met with reluctance from Westminster.

The review reveals that profits were £8.7 million in 2020-21. By 2025-26 those profits rose to £210m and some are saying that Wales should have that money, just as Scotland has had since devolution there in  2017. Devolution generated over £103 million for Scotland in 2023 alone .

The new Plaid Cymru Welsh Government is pushing for devolution, along with more control of natural resources here in Wales. Currently the Crown Estate has possession of over 60 per cent of all our beaches and riverbeds.

Pembrokeshire County Council and others have been supporting devolution as a much-needed investment in the economy of Wales.

Polls have apparently shown that at least 75 per cent of people agree that the funds should be in the hands of Wales.
