Folly Farm Welcomes New Macaques

Folly Farm has welcomed four Barbary macaques, an endangered species, to join the resident primate group.

Arriving from Blair Drummond Safari Park in Scotland, they are part of a programme aimed at the conservation of threatened species by the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria.

Now settling into farm life following a slightly bumpy start as the already resident  macaques needed some adjustment time, the animals are expected to be a huge draw for visitors.

The newcomers called Fia, Harper, Gigi and Annalee have been rescued from a variety of situations, adding their own voices to the already very vocal macaque community at Folly Farm. Everyone is settling into a social order that works for them in their  upgraded enclosure with its own pond and tree house shelters.
