How could you not fall in love with this little face?

I certainly have, though Mirabel, resident Queen of Seaview in Goodwick, is not so pleased that he turned up about six weeks ago, starving and terrified and out to steal my heart. Well, the bit that she has not already claimed.

Why are you seeing this?

Having shelled out big wadges of cash and brought in the underground cat team (thank you, all hands), he has been to the vet and has been determined to be “chipless”.

Apart from basic treatment – worming, de-fleaing and an antibiotic for an ear infection – we can do more for a few more weeks to make sure he is not owned by someone who would be most surprised if he turned up “unmanned”, so to speak.

His mug shot has been all over and is going through another round of advertising before the lovely Cat Protection folks can help with a voucher for doctoring, chipping and possibly vaccinations. We shall be writing about this wonderful service anon.

The vet says he is under three years old. Although being very hungry and nervous, he is also very affectionate with me, but runs if anyone else is about; and the other cats in the neighbourhood seem to have it in for him.

I have already got an outside shelter for him, in case he still wants to wander and to ensure Mirabel is not permanently on his case. Don’t worry, she is getting all the love she can handle and we are in ongoing discussions on future moves.

I think he is feral and probably been out there for some time, just getting by, so if you recognise him, please speak now, as he is coming to live with us.

Yes, Mirabel, we have agreed… extra licky licks and all.

It felt presumptuous to name him under the circumstances… Ginger or Ginge seem a bit boring, however appropriate. But this is not a plain-name household, and a friend has suggested Giongee (Jongee) which we are trying out.
